How long does counseling continue?

There is not a standard length of time.

In counseling, we seek to improve your current issues and identify the cause so we can develop beneficial living and thinking skills. Everyone has a different story and a different need.

You are the expert of you and do not need to be in counseling longer than you desire.

If you are contemplating leaving counseling, just let me know. We will use the last session to summarize and celebrate your successes.

Can I cancel the appointment? Do you have a cancellation policy?
If you need to reschedule a session, please give me 24 hours’ notice so I can adjust my schedule. If it is a medical emergency, it is understandable that you cannot give notice. If you choose to cancel at the last minute because of an inconvenience in your schedule, I’ll understand, but in that instance, I will ask for payment.
Do you think about clients in between sessions or think about former clients?
Yes, all the time. This is deeply personal work, and the bonds we create in session can last a lifetime. Here is the way I see it. You have me in your corner for life. Even if we are not seeing each other anymore, I’m still rooting for you and wishing you well.
Will you fix all my problems in one session?
I wish I had a magic wand! Therapy is more like planting seeds than instant gardening. But we will work together to make some lasting changes.
Will I be ‘cured’ after therapy?
Although you will not get a certificate of completion, you’ll feel more equipped to handle life’s curveballs. Life is a journey, and different things often arise at other times. And I am always here for a tune-up if needed! I thoroughly enjoy seeing clients go through various stages of life and enjoy supporting them as they may shift over time.
What else must a client know to make the most out of working with you?

Please show up on time. This time together is sacred and should be respected accordingly.

I encourage you to be as open and upfront as possible. The more you talk about the things that bother you, the more progress you will make.
